Richard C. Blood, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, July 7, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital. Per Richard's request, there will be no public service or visitation. Private services will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Susan; three sons, Rick (Sallie) of Keokuk, Steven (Deb) of Palo and Gregory (Jeanice) of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Sarah (James) Ashby of Marion; and two sisters, Sally Herman of Central City and Deb (Steve) Miller of Merritt Island, Fla. He also is survived by nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bob; and a sister, Marilyn Douglas.
Richard was born June 16, 1937, in Harrison, Mich., the son of Richard R. and Meta Gifford Blood, and attended Roosevelt High School. He married Susan M. Kohl on June 11, 1955, in Cedar Rapids.
Richard was a welder at Rockwell Collins for over 39 years, retiring in 1991.
He was a life member of the NRA and IBEW and proudly served in the National Guard for many years. attaining the rank of first sergeant.
Richard was a real outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, especially with his sons and friends, and riding his motorcycle.
Richard was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial fund has been established in Richard's name.
