Wilbert Herman Wenndt, 92, passed away at the Clarence Nursing Home after a lengthly illness on April 7, 2017. Visitation for Wilbert will be at Zion United Church of Christ in Lowden at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 11. A memorial service will immediately follow at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Stephen Stepp officiating. Cremation has taken place and a private family burial will be in Lowden Cemetery.
The son of Walter and Anna Wenndt, he was born April 26, 1924, in Lowden, Iowa. He married Nola Esbaum on Sept. 26, 1948, in Lowden. They farmed west of Lowden until moving to town in 1989. Wilbert enjoyed farming, watching the Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes, and spending time with family and dog, Max.
Wilbert is survived by his three daughters, Debbie (Jess) Axline of Lowden, Sherri (Robert) Rouse of Clarence and Robyn (William) Klein of Riverside; nine grandchildren, Darin (Janelle) Axline of Tipton, Angela (Dustin) Peet of Cedar Rapids, Sheila (Travis) Bowling of Maquoketa, Brian (Ashley) Rouse of Luzerne, Joel (Marisa) Rouse of Clarence, Daniel Rouse of Cedar Rapids, Paige Rouse of Clarence, Ashley Klein of Hiawatha and Adam Klein of Fairfield; nine great- grandchildren; brothers, Lester (Flora) Wenndt of Jetmore, Kan., and Dale (Janice) Wenndt of Olin; sister, Phyllis (Chris) Boedeker of Clarence; and brother-in-law, Gervase Driscoll of North Liberty.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nola; and sister, Lavone Driscoll.
Memorials may be directed to the Clarence Nursing Home, Above and Beyond Hospice or Zion United Church of Christ.
