Sharon Kay (Steinford) Jurgens, 77, of Marion, formerly of Van Horne, passed away peacefully in her home and joined our Lord in Heaven on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017, after her many years of battling cancer. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at
St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marion, conducted by the Rev. Gregory Williamson. Graveside services will take place at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Sharon was born in Vinton, Iowa, on April 20, 1940, the daughter of Clarence and Agnes (Bossler) Steinford. She graduated from Van Horne Consolidated School in 1958. After graduation, she attended Upper Iowa University and received a major in English and a minor in elementary education in August 1962. Sharon and L. Pete Jurgens were married Aug. 18, 1962. They just observed their 55th anniversary.
Sharon taught school for 31 years, two years in Lincoln, Neb., and 29 years at Marion Independent School District. She loved every child who was in her classroom. After Sharon and Pete retired, they visited many states and countries in their travels.
She loved crocheting, following her grandchildren in their accomplishments, and traveling on several cruises with the car clubs of which Pete and Sharon were members. Sharon was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marion, ACCA of Cedar Rapids and the Model A Club of Cedar Rapids
Sharon is survived by her husband, L. Pete; son, Richard (Robin) Jurgens; daughter, Kristin (Don) Iehl; four grandchildren, Richard D. and Laura Jurgens and Ashley and David Iehl; sisters, Evelyn and Wayne Fuller, Shirley and Don Moody and Kathy Miller; brother-in-law, John Wilson; along with four nephews.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; sister, Marilyn; two nephews; and a niece.
A memorial fund has been established in Sharon's memory; they family will designate at a later date.
