Ethel Corwin
ETHEL S. (MERAINER) CORWIN
Iowa City
Ethel S. (Merainer) Corwin, 90, of Iowa City, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2017.
Ethel was born Nov. 26, 1927, in Elizabeth, N.J. As a bright and inquisitive child, she was part of a loving family that struggled through the hardships of the Great Depression. She met her true love, Stanley, at the age of 29, while on a professional path in the textile industry. Ethel and Stanley married after a brief five month engagement and raised their family in Queens, New York City. They provided their daughters with an abundance of rich experiences, always encouraging them to pursue their dreams and discover their passions. Later on, during their elder years, they moved to Iowa City to be closer to family.
Devoted to each other, Ethel and Stanley lived life to the fullest for their 60-year union. Ethel was loved by many people from all walks of life for her magnetic spirit that resonated warmth, generosity and wisdom.
Ethel passed away at home, embraced by her family. Her memory and light lives on in her beloved and devoted husband, Stanley; her daughters, Roberta and Claudia; her sons-in-law, Mark and Tony; and her "treasures," her grandchildren, Jordyn, Cory, Max, Ava and Ben.
A celebration of Ethel's life will be held Wednesday, Dec. 20. Services will begin at 12:30 p.m. at Agudas Achim Synagogue. Burial will follow at Agudas Achim Cemetery. A meal of condolence will follow the burial at the synagogue.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Johnson County Crisis Center Food Bank. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service is handling arrangements.
