Doris Jean Sims, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center. Services:
1 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Survivors include three daughters, Debra Sims of Cedar Rapids, Sue (Don) Sopousek of Marion and Patti Sims of Seattle, Wash.; and a son, David (Tracey) of Mukwonago, Wis. She also is survived by six grandchildren, Jason (Anne) and Chad (Heather) Sopousek, Lindsay (Eric) Travagiakis, Matt (Erin) Hall and Jake and Tori Sims; and eight great-grandchildren, Ben, Rex, Patrick, Hunter, Aydin, Alec, Dallas and Camron.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; one brother; five sisters; and a stepdaughter, Barbara Sims.
Doris was born April 18, 1929, in Waukon, the daughter of Benjamin and Laura (Renne) Bechtel. She married Vernon L. Sims on Aug. 6, 1953, in Davenport. Vernon passed away in 2007.
Doris worked at the Chicken Shoppe for over 20 years and later in the deli at Hy-Vee for several years. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, fishing and dancing and traveling with her husband, Vernon. Her greatest joy, however, was the time spent with her beloved family.
Doris will forever be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
