David A. Toney Sr., 79, of Belle Plaine, Iowa, passed away Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at his home.

Services are 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service, Belle Plaine, with Russ Spading officiating.

David was born July 18, 1938, to Cleo and Margaret (Gunderson) Toney in Iowa City. He attended school in Luzerne. On Nov. 8, 1958, he married Lois Kuester in Ladora. The couple started out in Luzerne, then moved to the farm in Belle Plaine they called home for the past 52 years, where they raised their six children.

David worked for Cargill in Cedar Rapids for 11 years, ran their family farm, and was a partner in D&L Roofing. Following roofing, he became the sexton at Oak Hill Cemetery in Belle Plaine, which he continued into retirement at the age of 62.

David enjoyed junking, NASCAR and going to the casino. He loved surrounding himself with family, with his pride and joy being his six kids, his grandkids and his great-grandkids.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lois Toney; children, Teresa Toney of Cedar Rapids, David Jr. of Belle Plaine, Rod (Tracy) Toney of Keystone, Annette (Greg Walton) Toney of Belle Plaine, Laurie (Rory Sr.) Kelly of Cedar Rapids and Denise Staker of Brooklyn; grandchildren, Brittany, Rory Jr., Megan, Brooke, Blake, Dylan and Jordan; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; along with many more loving family and friends.

David is preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Cleo and Margaret Toney, Wayne Toney, Ron Toney, Terry Toney, Sharlene Jacobs and Kay Toney.
