Stephen W. Benda, 67, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017, at his home after a brief illness. Per his wishes, there will be no services.
Stephen was born Dec. 16, 1949, the son of Vernon and Ellen (Samek) Benda, in Cedar Rapids. He worked for IBM for many years before retiring. In his spare time, he greatly enjoyed hiking and photography.
Survivors include his three cousins, Howard (Karen) Samek of Iowa City, David (Sandra) Samek of Cedar Rapids and Richard (Elaine) Samek of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Stephen wanted to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of St. Luke's Hospital, and especially to his three cousins for their wonderful care toward him.
