Joan Arlene Berggren, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, at home, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will take place one hour before the service beginning at 10 a.m. at the chapel. Private graveside services will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Joan is survived by two sons, Gary (Cathy) Berggren of Marion and Doug (Dayle) Berggren of Cedar Rapids; four
grandsons, John, Scott (Liz), Sean (Jessica Butterfield) and Charles Berggren; one
great-grandson, Owen Berggren; a sister, Mary Alice Levi of Cedar Rapids; and two sisters-in-law, Pat Berggren of Eugene, Ore., and Kay Edelman of Anamosa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin "Bud" Berggren, in 2004; and a great-grandson, baby Berggren.
Joan was born April 21, 1925, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Clifford and Ethel (Owen) Rundall. She proudly graduated from Roosevelt High School. Joan was united in marriage to Marvin "Bud" Berggren on Nov. 18, 1944, in Cedar Rapids. Joan was a devoted homemaker. She was an animal lover who was especially fond of cats. She also loved to garden and enjoyed tending to her flower beds. Joan loved to travel, exploring regions across the U.S. and Europe. She was able to visit all but one of the 50 states, which was Washington. Joan was proud to be a lifelong member of the Old Capital Doll Club.
Joan especially enjoyed the time spent with her beloved family and friends. Joan was a devoted and wonderful wife, mother, sister and grandmother whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family and a donation in Joan's honor will be made to the Old Capital Doll Club.
