Gladys Palmer, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, at Emery Place, Robins, Iowa, surrounded by her loving family. The family will gather from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 520 Wilson Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids. A celebration of Gladys' life will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, at the funeral home. Interment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Gladys was born Oct. 24, 1935, in Brooklyn, Iowa, the daughter of Glenn and Pearl (Jewell) Doty. She married Robert W. Palmer on May 1, 1956. To this union, five children were born. Gladys worked as an administrative assistant with Roland Wilbert Vault Co. from 1976 until her retirement. She was very close to her family and she especially enjoyed her time with her grandkids and great-grandkids. Gladys loved to travel and knit. Her family and friends were given over 100 Christmas stockings that she made over the years.
Gladys truly will be missed.
Survivors include her children, Janie (John) Oren of Gulfport, Miss., Debbie (Rob) Distante of Eastvale, Calif., Sheryl Glew of Marion, Iowa, Jim (Deb) Palmer of Robins, Iowa, Cindy Palmer of Marion, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Staci, David, Stephanie, Angela, John, Shane, Chase and Matthew; great-grandsons, Brandon, Robby and Sam; great-granddaughters, Myleigh and Camryn; one great-grandchild expected in the spring; two brothers; four sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Robert; parents, Glenn and Pearl; two brothers; two brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; and great-grandson, Nicholas Joseph Palmer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Courageous, Alzheimer's Association, American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice.
