Lillian Childs Burke, 100, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at her home surrounded by her loving family. A visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the chapel.
Lillian Baker was born Oct. 9, 1917, the daughter of George and Lillie May (Brown) Baker. She worked at Collins Radio during World War II and worked at McKinley School with school lunches. She was a member of St. James United Methodist church, a part of Ruth Circle and the Silver Club. She volunteered for Campfire, Cub Scouts and Head Start. Most of all, she dearly loved raising her children and spending time with family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Herbert Childs, 1961, and Maurice Burke, 2002; two children, Sherri Lynn Childs and Larry Childs; and three siblings, Rachel Lehigh, Eileen Lubbe and Wilber Baker.
Left to cherish Lillian's memories are her children, Steve Childs and Michael (Hatti) Childs, both of Hawaii, and Mark (Pamela) Childs and Doveanna Lekin, both of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to the St. James United Methodist Church in memory of Lillian Burke.
