Yvonne "Barb" M. Barber, 93, of Cedar Rapids, passed away after a short illness on Nov. 18, 2017, at Manor Care.
He was born Oct. 12, 1924, in Edmond, Okla., to Edward and Leona (Jones) Barber. He graduated from Edmond High School, where he was captain of the football and basketball teams and played on several baseball teams. Barb enlisted in the Army Air Corps, earning his pilot's wings in 1944 at Lubbock, Texas. He served in the Pacific piloting B-24s.
Barb and family moved from Salem, Ore., to Cedar Rapids in 1954 and was employed at Kilborn Photo Products for 36 years before retirement. He was a member of Indian Creek Country Club for a number of years. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, playing cards, reading and watching the Hawkeyes and the Oklahoma Sooners. He enjoyed family gatherings and being with his granddaughters and their families. Barb and Lucille enjoyed spending many winters vacationing in Acapulco, Mexico.
Barb married Lucille (Aossey) Kalell on Nov. 27, 1971; they would have celebrated 46 years of marriage in one week. He also is survived by a daughter, Charlee Kimm of Terre Haute, Ind.; son, Jim Barber of Cedar Rapids; stepdaughter, Debbie (Mike) Wilt of Marion; granddaughters, Dani (Jeff) Bailey and Nicole (Steve) Toy; stepgranddaughter, Lydia Breitback; 11 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandsons.
Barb was predeceased by his parents; three brothers; two sisters; a son-in-law, Bob Kimm; and a stepson, Albert Kalell.
A special thank-you to Chip and Judy for all of their love and support given to Barb and his family.
