The Iowa Hawkeyes picked up their first Big Ten victory of 2018 and retained the Floyd of Rosedale trophy Saturday with a 48-31 win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
Iowa picked off four Minnesota passes on a day it started two true freshmen cornerbacks. Those freshmen -- Riley Moss (2) and Julius Brents -- each came up with interceptions. Safety Geno Stone had the other.
Iowa QB Nate Stanley wasn't immune to the turnover bug. A late first-half interception and second-half fumble set up Gophers touchdowns. But he also made some key throws, completing 23 of 39 for 314 yards and four touchdowns.
The passing game was key on a day Iowa gained just 2.7 yards per rush, going for 106 yards on 40 attempts. The Hawkeyes did get a rushing TD from tight end T.J. Hockenson on a fake field goal attempt out of a swinging-gate formation. Hockenson also had a touchdown reception.
Iowa (4-1, 2-0) jumped out to a 14-0 lead and never trailed, leading 28-17 at halftime. It was the Hawkeyes' fourth straight win over the Gophers (3-2, 0-2).
Iowa visits Indiana next week at 11 a.m.
