Iowa picked up its second defensive commitment in the Class of 2019 as Oak Lawn, Ill., safety Sebastian Castro announced Wednesday on Twitter that he is joining the Hawkeyes.
Castro is given 3 stars by both 247Sports and Rivals. 247Sports ranks him 77th nationally among safeties and the No. 18 overall prospect in Illinois. Rivals has the Harold L. Richards prep ranked 30th among safeties and No. 6 overall in Illinois.
Castro, 6-foot-1 and 198 pounds, picked Iowa over offers from Iowa State, Minnesota, Syracuse and Ball State, according to 247Sports.
'I would first like to thank god (sic) for giving me this great opportunity, none of this would be possible without him,” Castro wrote. 'I would also like to thank all of my family, friends and coaches that have supported me throughout this process. Lastly, I want to greatly thank the schools that took the time to recruit me, with that being said I am proud to announce my commitment to the University of Iowa!”
He told HawkeyeReport.com he fits in with Iowa's culture.
'I know it's the best fit for me and my family,” Castro said. '… Tough, hardworking kids that love to win and compete.”
Castro is Iowa's sixth Class of 2019 commitment, joining Cedar Falls linebacker Jack Campbell on the defensive side of the ball. He's the second out-of-state pledge in '19 along with Orion, Ill., tight end Logan Lee. Iowa signed three Illinois preps in its 2018 class.
