Happy 100th Birthday Wilma Carson
Happy 100th Birthday Wilma Carson
I treasure being a member of the First
Presbyterian Church near Ely all of my life. I have roots in the history of the Ely Church. My great-grandfather Josef Zvacek was one of the founding fathers in 1859.
I was born May 30, 1917 to William and Tillie Skalsky, who were members of Rogers Grove Church. I was baptized by Rev. Francis Pokorny with the name Wilhemina. Wilma was used as a nickname. I graduated from Roger's Grove Grade School and from Ely High School - then a 2-year course in Coe College for a teacher's degree.
Roy and I were married December 29, 1938 by Rev. Ludwig Burian.
One of my fondest memories is baking kolaches for the church soup supper in our wood burning stove with neighbors. Roy's job was keeping the oven at an even baking temperature.
Roy and I raised two children, Mary Rhae and
William Lloyd. Roy died May 27, 1994 in Sun City, AZ, where we had a retirement home.
I moved to my present retirement home - Maplewood Apt. 301, 3700 Lenoir St., Columbia, MO 65201 - in July 2004 to be closer to family.
