John L. Meyer, 63, of Dyersville, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2026, at his home.
Visitation was held from 1 – 8 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Kramer-Morris Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa. Visitation continued from 9 – 10 a.m. at the funeral home prior to funeral services.
Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Kramer-Morris Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa.
John was born on January 25, 1963, son of Donald C. and Helen (Ament) Meyer. He married Laurie Bildstein February 13, 1988, in Dyersville, Iowa.
“Red” John was a very particular man, who took pride in chasing perfection. His heart was poured into his work, his family, his property, and his entertainment. Always a technically capable and highly proficient artisan with an eye for detail, it became his means to provide for those around him.
From bacon and eggs on the griddle, to steak and hamburger on the grill, John enjoyed cooking for his family. Through full Sundays of effort, after 70+ hour work weeks, he always ensured a neat and tidy home. His dedication to his household always shined brightest, as he loved to host large gatherings of family and friends.
John loved his entertainment and often could be found in his free time watching Westerns, reading about architecture, and listening to Classic and Psychedelic Rock. He adored nature and the outdoors, spending quality time with golf, fishing, and hunting.
“Red” John made a living for himself and his family as a contractor, with outstanding dedication to his craft of operating heavy equipment and managing job sites as a construction foreman. He spent well over a decade of his life building his dream company, C. L. Meyer Construction, with his brother Clyde. The two were absolutely inseparable and enjoyed immense success while working together.
Along with his wife and best friend, Laurie, John spent every waking moment absolutely driven to provide for his children. In the morning, the two could often be found on the porch sharing coffee, planning out the days to come. He was a staunch supporter of their kids’ goals and aspirations, always cheering them on in academics and extracurricular activities. Most recently, his compassion and innate ability to connect with the young was demonstrated as he read to and built things with his grandchild, Lilith, who lovingly refers to him as “Gumpy”.
Family and friends will remember John for his patience, his laid back and forgiving nature, his short but concise words, and his life of sacrifice to ensure his wife and children had the opportunity to chase their dreams.
