Carroll (CW) Wiese, age 86, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Van Horne, with Rev. Jacob Dunne as Celebrant. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery near Keystone. Visitation will also be held at the church from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday.
Carroll William Wiese was born December 4, 1939, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of William Francis and Mary Pauline (Buck) Wiese. As a young child, Carroll lived in Keokuk and Burlington, Iowa. He attended elementary school in Burlington and completed his high school education in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. At 18, Carroll enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After his service, he returned to Cedar Rapids and became a machinist for Collins Radio Company, fabricating components for communications equipment in the aerospace program. His dedication to his career spanned 42 years. He retired from Rockwell Collins in December 2001.
On October 28, 1961, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Gale Darlene O’Brien, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Together, they were blessed with four children: Lisa, David, Christopher, and Susan. Carroll was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; he was active in the Van Horne Community, was a former part-time employee for the City of Van Horne, a former member of the Van Horne Fire Department, and a member of the Van Horne American Legion Post 148.
Throughout his life, Carroll enjoyed singing Elvis Presley songs and, in his younger years, performed at the Mayvu Ballroom in Cedar Rapids, IA, where he was known as Elvis the 2nd. As he entered his later years, he still enjoyed singing for others and performed in an Elvis Tribute Contest. He didn’t win, but at that performance, he was “The King” to his family and friends.
Carroll will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. Family and friends will remember the celebrations held at the Wiese Garage, and his family will always treasure the memories from the yearly fishing trips to Cass Lake, Minnesota.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Lisa (Ken) Schoon of Goose Lake, David (Laurie Spalding) of Woodward, Chris of Van Horne, and Susan Moore (Jeff Fehlhafer) of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one brother and three sisters; two stepsisters; two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law; one special aunt, along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special extended family and friends.
Carroll was preceded in death by his loving wife, Darlene, two grandchildren, his parents, a special stepfather, LeRoy McGrew, and a wonderful stepmother, Judith Wiese.
Memorials may be directed to the Van Horne Fire Department or First Responders.
