Legislators keep pretending they’re experts

It seems that in the last few years state legislators have tasked themselves with taking control of things that should be left to the experts. Legislators have inserted themselves into health care and education. They have decided that they know more about women’s reproductive care than those who practice in the health care field. They also seem to know better than the professionals who should be vaccinated and on what schedule.
Legislators have also decided they know more about what libraries should have on their shelves and what teachers should teach and how they should teach it. They have decided that public tax dollars should go to private schools denying public schools of needed financial support. They have even determined that universities should teach a vanilla version of history as not to upset the those whose ancestors were oppressors. And now they are moving to erase the progress made by previous Legislatures to level the playing field for people of color and the LBGT community.
It is my opinion that legislators should govern, not inflict their narrow view on social issues on the rest of us.
