Joan Marie Snodgrass, 86, of Marion, Iowa, formerly of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In keeping with her wishes, she will be cremated and there will be no visitation or services. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Joan was born on May 25, 1939, to Milton and Marie (Billmeyer) Vyverberg in Dubuque, Iowa. She attended Immaculate Conception Academy, where she graduated in 1957. She then attended Mercy School of Nursing. Joan was united in marriage to Clare Snodgrass on February 20, 1960, and the two shared 65 wonderful years together.
Joan worked most of her career as an office administrator for Theisen’s Farm & Home in Dubuque. She had enjoyed bowling in a women’s league, crocheting, reading, taking family camping trips, and visiting various casinos. Most of all, she was obsessed with playing bingo. In her later years, she cherished wintering with Clare in Mission, Texas.
Joan is survived by her children, Debra (Ray) Ellwood of Marion, Daryl Snodgrass of Cheney, Washington, David (Ann) Snodgrass of Dubuque, and Donald (Lynn) Snodgrass of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Angela, Raychel, Adam, Amanda, and Tristen; several great-grandchildren; and sister, Shirley Schroeder of Dubuque.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clare Snodgrass; and brother, Richard Vyverberg.
Joan’s family wishes to extend a special thank-you to UnityPoint Hospice for the kindness and compassion that will never be forgotten.
