Cultural critic and author Fran Lebowitz will make her first appearance in Iowa this spring as part of an event presented by the student-led University of Iowa Lecture Committee.
Lebowitz, whom the New York Times Book Review has described as an “important humorist in the classic tradition,” will speak at 7:30 p.m. April 22 at the Englert Theatre, 221 E. Washington St. in Iowa City. The event is free and open to the public.
Lebowitz worked odd jobs, such as taxi driving, belt peddling and apartment cleaning, before being hired by Andy Warhol as a columnist for Interview.
Her first book, a collection of essays titled “Metropolitan Life,” was a best-seller, as was a second collection, “Social Studies.” She also is the author of the children’s book, “Mr. Chas and Lisa Sue Meet the Pandas.”
For more information about the event, which is sponsored by the UI School of Journalism and Mass Communication, go to the Englert Theatre’s website at englert.org.
