Mercy Medical Center announces new chief financial officer
Joe Malas will bring 30 years of experience in health care financial leadership to the role

CEDAR RAPIDS — Mercy Medical Center named Joe Malas its new executive vice president and chief financial officer on Tuesday.
Malas is currently vice president and chief financial officer of Mercyhealth, a health network with more than 85 facilities in Illinois and Wisconsin. Malas also served as chief financial officer of Genesis Health System in Davenport for five years and in financial leadership roles in an Illinois health system for 18 years.
“Joe brings deep expertise in healthcare finance and a strong commitment to aligning financial strategy with quality, access and patient-centered care,” Dr. Timothy Quinn, president and CEO at Mercy said in a press release. “His leadership will be instrumental as we continue fortifying Mercy’s financial strength and advancing our efforts in thoughtful growth and cost improvement, all in preparation for HR1. We are fortunate to welcome him at such a pivotal time in healthcare.”
Malas’ tenure at Mercy will begin on March 30, 2026.
