Leonard Vanorny, 91, of Solon, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at the Solon Care Center.
Military graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services, Tuesday, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW.
Leonard was born on January 31, 1935, in Solon, the son of Roy and Bessie (Jansa) Vanorny. He served in the United States Army for two years and was stationed in Guam. He married Gloria J. Moser on August 9, 1963. Together they had two children, Marci and Jamie. Gloria passed away on January 11, 1996. Leonard was united in marriage to Karen Villhauer on October 9, 1998. He farmed in the Solon and Ely area all his life. He enjoyed playing the accordion, collecting toy tractors, arrowheads, and spending time with his friends and family. Leonard was a member of the Solon American Legion and the Iowa Accordion Club of Cedar Rapids.
Leonard is survived by his wife Karen Vanorny; his daughters Marci Crain (Tim) and Jamie Hynek; Karen's daughter SueAnn Shuler; his grandchildren Tyler and Connor Wooff, Hailee Hynek, Tim Crain Jr. (Samantha), Hunter Hynek (Lauren), Hannah Jenkins; great grandchildren Braxton, Micah and Braedyn Crain, Heidy, Athena and Artemis Hynek, Elyza and Emmelyn Jenkins; sister-in-law Dianne (James) Myer; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Gloria; his sister Irene Novak, son-in-law Jeff Hynek and a niece Connie.
