Kathrine A. (Scaffinger) Michel, age 66, died peacefully at Crestview Specialty Care Center in West Branch surrounded by her loving husband, Kenneth, on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

Kathrine was born September 22, 1959, in Des Moines, Iowa was the daughter to Edward and Betty( Studer) Scaffinger. Growing up in Iowa City she attended schools here graduating in 1978 from City High School. Following high school, Kathrine worked for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in the Central Sterilizing Department for 35 years before retiring. Kathrine enjoyed working and she loved spending time with Ken watching their many shows on TV.
Her family includes husband, Kenneth Michel; brothers, Mike Scaffinger, Mark Scaffinger and Dan Scaffinger; and half-sister, Linda Ritter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and 1 half- brother and 2 half-sisters.
The family is also very appreciative to the staff at Crestview Specialty Care Center for their compassionate care of Kathrine.
