Cedar Rapids Prairie has taken the next step toward the start of its own swim programs in 2026-27, naming head coaches for both the girls and boys programs.
Trinity Sadecky will lead the first girls team this fall while Heather Bunn will be first boys coach for the next winter season. The announcement of the hirings came Friday and are pending approval of the College Community School District School Board.
Since 2011 Prairie has been part of a co-op program with Cedar Rapids Jefferson and before that was in a co-op agreement with Williamsburg.
The Prairie Summit YMCA pool is scheduled to open near the end of the current school year. The new facility, located west of Prairie Heights Elementary School, was approved with the passage of a $43 million bond referendum by College Community School District voters in 2023.
“The leadership of Sadecky and Bunn, combined with our new state-of-the-art facility, Prairie Summit YMCA, signals a bold new era for our swim programs," said Prairie Activities Director Andrew Davis in a press release. "The future of Prairie swimming is incredibly bright and both Sadecky and Bunn are the ideal leaders to establish a culture of excellence for our inaugural season.”
Sadecky was a standout swimmer at Iowa City High from 2016-19 before going on to swim at Iowa State. She is a third-grade teacher at Prairie Hill Elementary and has been a coach at the club level for area teams.
“I am beyond excited to be named the very first head coach for the Prairie girls swim team,” Sadecky said. “Getting to start a brand-new program from the ground up is such a special opportunity, and I am so incredibly grateful to Prairie for trusting me to lead the way.”
Bunn was a team captain during her prep career at Cedar Rapids Jefferson and swam collegiately at Coe College. She has coached in the Cedar Rapids Xavier school system and has also worked with area club swimmers. Bunn is a first-grade teacher at Prairie Hill.
“It is a privilege to be named the first-ever head coach and I am beyond excited to help shape the future of Prairie boys swimming,” said Bunn. "I look forward to working with all levels to grow and build a competitive program here.“
