Sally Jane Gaskill, age 90, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, surrounded by love.
She was born on June 28, 1935, in Cresco, Iowa, to her parents, Burton and Nora Barth. Sally graduated from Cresco High School in 1953. After graduating, she moved to Cedar Rapids, where she met the love of her life, Larry Gaskill. They exchanged vows at All Saints Church on December 2, 1961.
Together, they built a wonderful life, raising six children and delighting in watching them grow and marry. Sally loved being a grandma and rarely missed the many events and activities of her grandchildren. She lived a long and meaningful life defined by love for her family, quiet strength, and deep kindness. Sally had a way of making people feel welcome and cared for—often greeted by the smell of baking cookies, cakes, and brownies in her kitchen, with oatmeal chocolate chip being her specialty. The grandkids and Bob always knew where to find “Grandma’s/Mom’s cookies.”
Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Burton and Nora Barth; her husband, Larry Gaskill; her daughter-in-law, Anne Gaskill; and her granddaughter, Phoebe Toczylowki.
She is survived by her brother, John Barth; her children, Bob Gaskill; John (Deb) Gaskill; Suzie (Steve) Vuolo; Kathy (Mike) Toczylowski; Maribeth (Jon) Drake; and Peter (Tania) Gaskill. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren: Luke, Jake, and Ellie Gaskill; Kendra, Evan, and Cale Gaskill; Alison, Michael, and Lauren Vuolo; Kara, Paul, and Monica Toczylowski; Emma, Sam, and Anna Drake; and Xavier and Autumn Gaskill. She was further blessed with seven great-grandchildren—Jade, Jack, Hattie, Hayes, Isla, Delanie, and Kaladin—and many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Sally found joy in knitting beanies for neonatal babies, as well as making afghans and baby blankets for her family. She will be remembered as a devoted and wonderful caregiver to all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the family she cherished.
A visitation and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Jude’s Catholic Church on Saturday, February 7. Visitation will be from 9:00–10:00 a.m., with the funeral Mass following at 10:00 a.m. A luncheon will be held at St. Jude’s following the burial. Teahen Funeral Home is caring for Sally and her family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Jude’s Catholic Church in her memory.
