Clarence Fred Zerbee, 78, of Cedar Rapids passed away January 23, 2026. After a five-year battle with cancer, Fred requested that cremation rites be accorded. Visitation will be held from 12-3 PM, Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A Memorial Service with military honors will follow the visitation at 3:00 PM.
Fred was born on December 30, 1947, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was the son of Vernon and Lorraine (Kilts) Zerbee. Fred graduated from Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School in 1967. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1967-1971. Fred was united in marriage to Wendy Peters on September 6, 1969. Fred was a Millwright with Local 2158 and retired as Assistant Business Agent. In his younger years, he liked golfing, fishing, and hunting. More recently, he enjoyed building and repairing computers. He loved to cook and write poetry. Fred was an animal lover, especially his dogs. He liked to play cards and enjoyed euchre and golf tournaments with his sons. Fred always made Valentine’s Day special for his daughter. He loved his family greatly and would do anything for them.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Wendy of Cedar Rapids; sons, Brian Zerbee and Keith (Jen) Zerbee; daughter, Michelle (Ryan) Zerbee-Sears; grandchildren, Makayla (Nick) Banowetz, Faith Zerbee, Samantha Zerbee, and Charlotte Zerbee; siblings, Verna Zerbee, Connie Zerbee Nesbitt, and Daryl Zerbee; half siblings Nancy (Mike) Smith and Tammy Portzline; stepsiblings, Debbie (John) Westfall and Terri (Dave) Chalupsky; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; grandparents; and stepbrother, Danny Lybarger.
