Two staff members at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison were injured last week when they were assaulted by inmates, according to a spokesperson for the Iowa Department of Corrections.
The assault happened at 9:37 a.m. Wednesday. The staff members involved are in stable condition and receiving treatment at a hospital, according to a Monday morning email from the Department of Corrections’ communication department.
The DOC did not say how many inmates were involved, or whether any charges have been filed yet.
“The safety of our team remains our top priority. The Department is working closely with the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to investigate these assaults, and the inmates involved will be held accountable for their actions,” the email states.
