Joseph Paul Bauer, 66, passed away on January 20, 2026, following a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Born in Sterling, Illinois, Joe was the youngest of five children born to Audrey and Clarence Bauer. He graduated from Newman High School, attended Purdue University, and earned his degree from the University of Iowa.
Joe most recently worked in the Surgical Neurological Intensive Care Unit (SNICU) at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Throughout his life, he forged a varied and meaningful career in healthcare, advertising, marketing, editing, and reporting, bringing warmth, creativity, and dedication to every role.
An accomplished musician and singer, Joe found great joy in music and performance. He especially loved serving as an emcee and singing Sinatra standards, along with jazz and blues favorites, for the devoted fans of the Smith Studio Jazz Band.
Joe will be fondly remembered for his generous spirit, quick wit, deep love of music, and the meaningful connections he formed with everyone fortunate enough to know him.
A musical celebration will be held in June with the date and time to be announced. Memorials may be directed to NAMI Johnson County.
