Richard “Dick” Johnson, 92, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at The Views in Marion, Iowa. There will be no services at this time. Private burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Dick was born July 25, 1933, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of William and Mary (Ralston) Johnson. He was a 1951 graduate of McKinley High School. Following graduation, Dick served in the Navy Reserves. On June 11, 1954, he was united in marriage to Barbara Brown in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Dick was proud to be an Eagle Scout in his youth. He was an active member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and later served on the Marion City Council. He deeply loved the city of Marion and would often say, “It’s the best place to live.” In 1960, while working fifty hours a week, Dick built his own home. Additionally, in 1969, he founded Master Tool & Manufacturing, building a business that reflected his strong work ethic and commitment to quality.
With encouragement from dear friends George and Marlyce Murdoch, Dick and Barb joined Indian Creek Country Club in Marion, Iowa. There they discovered a shared love of golf and formed many lasting friendships. They enjoyed countless rounds at Indian Creek, as well as memorable golf trips to Wisconsin and Illinois. Dick continued golfing until the age of 89 and proudly recorded three hole-in-ones in Marion, Florida, and Wisconsin. Beyond playing the game, he also enjoyed watching golf on the Golf Channel. Dick was an avid bridge player and cherished many card nights shared with Barb and friends.
After he retired, Dick and Barb moved to the Sunshine State, where they lived for eight years. When Barb’s health declined, they returned to their beloved Marion. Dick was known for his honesty, fairness, and tremendous work ethic. He was a wonderful and loving father and grandfather to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Dick will be deeply missed.
Dick is survived by his children, Mike (Cindy) Johnson and Laurie (Mark) Moeller, all of Marion, Iowa; grandchildren, Andrea Meyer, Ryan (Akiko) Johnson, Kyle (Rachel) Johnson, Doug Johnson, Allison Moeller, and Jenny (Matt) Wooldrik; six great-grandchildren, Keira, Addison, Kai, Cal, Bo and Ruby.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; infant daughter, Susan; his parents, William and Mary Johnson; sister, Patricia Arenas; and brother, William Johnson.
Memorials in Dick’s memory may be directed to: The Churches of Marion Pantry, 864 12th Street, Marion, Iowa 52302.
