Gordon Dean Sanborn, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died on January 12, 2026, at the Grand Living at Indian Creek. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at St. Wenceslaus Church in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre will be assisting the family at this time.
Gordy was born on November 5, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Gordon W and Mary (Cepowski) Sanborn. Gordy was united in marriage to Delores “Dee” Hamad on July 19, 1986.
Gordy is survived by his daughter Laurie (Jon) and son Scott (Donna), grandchildren Faith (Nick), Erin, Emily, and Ryan, great-grandchildren Rivir and Emme, and brother Denny (Donna).
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his loving wife Dee Sanborn.
Memorials may be directed to animal rescue or no kill animal shelter in Gordy’s name.
