Keith LaVerne Chapman, 92, of rural Tipton, passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 13, 2026. Born December 30, 1933, he married Alma Mae Ahrens in 1960, and together they celebrated 65 years of marriage while raising four children: Gary, Bubba, Sue, and Brad. A U.S. Army veteran and Iowa State graduate, Keith spent his life farming, teaching, serving as Dean of Agriculture at Kirkwood Community College, and coaching Tipton varsity girls’ softball for more than 40 years. A lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, he was active in many community organizations and proud of four generations of Chapman baseball players.
Keith is survived by his wife, Alma, and their children, Gary (Shelley), Bubba (Lynn), Sue (Jeff Hintz), and Brad (Rachel Hinderaker). He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held Friday, January 16, from 4–7 p.m. at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Private burial will precede funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 17, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with luncheon to follow. Memorials may be directed to the Trinity Lutheran Endowment Fund or the Kirkwood Beef Program. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com.
