Boys swimming: District assignments set as postseason approaches

Top-ranked Iowa City West will begin its quest for a boys state swimming title with a bit of a road trip for district competition, which will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7 at six sites around the state.

Coach Byron Butler's Trojans were placed in the district meet at Johnston. District assignments were announced Tuesday by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.

No. 3 Linn-Mar was one of the six host sites. All three Cedar Rapids schools, Jefferson, Kennedy and Washington, along with Iowa City High, Vinton-Shellsburg and Williamsburg are area schools who will be competing at the Linn-Mar Aquatic Center.

Another area school, Decorah, will swim in the Mason City district where No. 6 West Des Moines Valley is the favorite.

No. 2 Waukee and No. 4 Waukee Northwest will battle it out in their home pool as both were assigned to the Waukee district. No. 5 West Des Moines Dowling highlights the field at Ames. No. 7 Cedar Falls and No. 8 Dubuque Hempstead are the top-ranked teams in the Dubuque Senior district.

All district meets are scheduled for a noon start. The fastest 32 individual swimmers and 24 relay teams from district competition will qualify for state, That meet is set to be held for Feb. 13-14 at the University of Iowa’s Campus Recreation & Wellness Center in Iowa City.

At Ames: Ames, Boone, Carroll, D.M. East, D.M. Hoover, Marshalltown, Newton, WDM Dowling

At Dubuque Senior: Bettendorf, Cedar Falls, Clinton, Davenport Central, Davenport West, Dubuque Hempstead, Dubuque Senior, Muscatine, North Scott

At Waukee: Atlantic, CB Lewis Central, D.M. Lincoln, D.M. North, Grinnell, Sioux City, Waukee, Waukee Northwest
