Laurie Jeanette Haack, 63, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on January 9, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Celebration of Life Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Immanuel Baptist Church, located at 1900 F Avenue NW. Burial will be 12:00 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2026, at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery – South, Cylinder, Iowa.
Laurie was born on April 17, 1962, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Bernard Edward and Lavonne Emma (Preston) Haack. In 1972 they moved to Mesa, Arizona. She graduated from Westwood High School in Mesa, Arizona, Class 1980, and she continued her education in Iowa at Iowa Lakes Community College in 1981 with her CNA certification. Laurie moved to the Des Moines area and started her career as a CNA. In November of 1989, she was united in marriage to Todd Brewington where they resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Their marriage ended in 2005. Laurie remained in Cedar Rapids where she worked for over 40 years as a CNA. She worked at several nursing homes, Northbrook Care Center, West Ridge Care Center, Cottage Grove Place, and most recently Winslow House. She was a very dependable worker as her passion was helping others. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her children and grandchildren. Laurie loved music and grew up in a singing family. When Laurie wasn’t working, you would find her enjoying karaoke and playing cards with her friends, and she really enjoyed doing puzzles. She was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Her infectious laugh will be remembered by all who knew her.
Laurie is survived by her children Aaron Brewington and Ashley (Sean) Looby; her grandchildren Emma, Aaron Jr., Kendra and Holden; her sisters Sandra Naig of Graettinger, Iowa, Cheryl Abernathy (Ivan) of Brooksville, Florida, Marsha Kramer (Dennis) of Iowa Falls, Iowa, and Julie Reimann (Jan) of Leland, Iowa; her brothers Michael Haack (Terri) of Coats, Kansas, Greg Haack (Norma) of Spencer, Iowa, and David Haack (LuAnne) of Cylinder, Iowa; her special friend Arnie Sattizahn; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Linda (H.B.) Worley, infant brother John Eugene and her brother-in-law Dan Naig.
