Russell “Russ” Gene Knopp, 84, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Friday, December 26, 2025, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. Honoring Russell’s wishes, no service will be held. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, assisted the family.
Russ was born February 28, 1941, in Paul, Idaho, the son of Victor and Alma (Walters) Knopp. He graduated from Minidoka High School in Minidoka, Idaho and received his master’s degree in Moscow, Idaho. On June 26, 1979, Russ was united in marriage to Joanne Hlavacek in Burlington, Iowa. Russ enjoyed westerns and collecting cowboy hats. He liked family time, golfing, and his daily martini. Russ and Joanne always had a great time boating and fishing together. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Joanne Knopp of Cedar Rapids; stepchildren, Donald (Kelly) Walker of Burlington, Iowa, Barbara (Wayne) Ness of Mesa, Arizona, and Mark Walker of Burlington, Iowa; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
