Everette Francis Horwedel, 84, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2025. Visitation: 12 to 1 p.m. Monday, January 5, 2026, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral Service: 1 p.m. Monday, January 5, 2026, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The family requests attendees wear casual attire.
Everette was born on May 2, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Marvin and Lucille (Lenton) Horwedel. After graduating from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, Everette went on to attend Coe College. On October 6, 1962, at St. Ludmila Church in Cedar Rapids, he married Delores “Dee” Eleen Meester. Everette worked at Rockwell Collins for over 30 years. He was a scout master for many years with Boy Scout Troop 555 and served on the board of the Hawkeye Area Scouting Council.
Everette is survived by his son, Mike (Susan Rathke) Horwedel; Moria and her seven children, who were like his daughter and grandchildren; cat, Smudge; and dog, Jazz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; spouse, Dee Horwedel; son, Steven L. Horwedel; and sister, Marlene Wray.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hospice of Mercy or Boy Scouts of America Hawkeye Area Council Offices.
