Eva Marie Elizabeth (Wernegreen) Miller of Marion, Iowa, died on December 18, 2025. A private burial will be at a later date at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa, next to her husband.
Eva Marie was born March 11, 1936, in Junction City, Oregon, the daughter of John and Christine Wernegreen. After graduating high school in 1954, Eva Marie attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois. While there, she met her husband Martin when both were doing mission work. They married on June 13, 1959, and were married for 54 wonderful years until his death in 2014. They spent thirty-nine years serving in the United Methodist Churches of Iowa including Guttenberg, Dubuque, Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Van Horn, Clinton, and Clarinda.
Eva Marie was a very devoted, caring, and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She and Martin had five children, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Martin said “Eva was made of good stuff; she was easy to live with. She was a wonderful wife and companion. She was a sweet, sweet woman and the best thing that ever happened to me.”
She is survived by her children, John Miller, Kathy (Jon) Linke, Robert Miller, Mary Miller, and Rose (Tony) Almquist; grandchildren, Nick and Noah Miller, Ryan (Audrey) and Renae (Scott) Linke, Derek and Mason Miller, and Alex and Kate Almquist; great-grandchildren, Braxtyn, Ryker, Malcolm, and Kallen; siblings, Oscar Wernegreen, Ellen Cecil, and Joyce Blair; along with many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Eva had a strong compassion for children and a wish that all children be loved and cared for.
Eva Marie was very grateful for friends, especially those who supported her throughout her journey.
