A man from Quebec, Canada was arrested Wednesday on charges that he placed credit card scanners on the registers at two Family Dollar Stores in Cedar Rapids, according to a press release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
Mykola Tymchenko, 47, is charged with two counts of illegal use of a scanning device and one count of conspiracy to commit a non-forcible felony. Court documents with details about his arrest and bond were not yet available Thursday afternoon.
Police notified the public Dec. 3 that they were investigating the card skimmers, and advised anyone who had shopped at the Family Dollar Stores at 901 First Ave. SW and 1531 32nd St. NE between Nov. 27 and Dec. 2 to check their accounts for fraudulent charges.
Investigators identified Tymchenko as a suspect and were able to find a vehicle that he was associated with in Marshalltown on Wednesday, through the use of Automated License Plate Reader cameras in the city, according to a press release.
