Larry G. Swann, 91, of Solon, Iowa, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025, peacefully at the Solon Care Center. Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Solon prior to services. Funeral Mass for Larry will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the church. Brosh Chapel and Avacentre are in charge of arrangements.
Larry was born on August 27, 1934, in Marion, Iowa, to George and Tressie Ague Swann. Larry served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1954. He started his career as an electrician with Grout Electric and eventually co-founded E&S Electric in Cedar Rapids. Larry married Delores Joan Vislisel on June 7, 1958, at St. Peter & Paul Catholic church in rural Solon.
Larry soon became very active in the Solon community. Larry was a Paid Up For Life Member of the American Legion. He was a member of the Solon Fire Department, Solon American Legion Post 460, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Steinbrech/Randall Council #12129, 4th Degree. Larry was involved in many community projects, primarily the founding father of Solon Beef Days, the Solon Legion Ball Diamond and more recently, the Veterans Memorial. As a proud member of the American Legion, Larry took on many leadership roles starting with Solon Post Commander, 1st District Commander, was State of Iowa Commander in 2005-06, was also on the American Legion State of Iowa Foundation and was directly involved in starting the American Legion Foundation Golf Outing held in Solon. Larry was thrilled to be named the 2025 Solon Senior of the Year. One would often find Larry at the Legion watching his beloved Iowa Hawkeyes. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Terri (Wayne) Kramer of Farley, Iowa; Kathi (Steve) Cunning of Monument, Colorado; Sandi (Brian) Drew of Waukon, Iowa; Debbi (Jay) Zucker of Pinetop, Arizona; his sons, Steve of Trenton, Missouri; and Mike (Jenny) of Solon; his grandchildren, Andrew (Maddy), Danny (Alyssa), Matthew (Alyssa) and Kevin Kramer; Savannah (Drew) Geene and DJ Cunning; Tony, Derek (Lauren), Adam, and Robbie Drew; Cassie (Eric) Lanning; Gage (Dolores) Powell; Isaiah (Sydney), Nate, and Gabe Swann; Lincoln and Lauryn Swann; twelve great-grandchildren; his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Ron and Darlene Barta, and Betty Swann; two nieces and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores on November 7, 2010; his son Mark on April 9, 2025; his parents, his in-laws, Ed and Helen Vislisel; his brothers Kenneth and Jerry Swann; his sister in-law, Sandi Swann; and nephew Darren Swann.
