IOWA CITY — Iowa football picked up two more All-American honors, continuing its streak with the offensive line and adding returner/wide receiver Kaden Wetjen to the list.
The Hawkeyes had two players named to the AFCA All-America teams, making it the third consecutive season with at least at honorees.
Center Logan Jones received his fourth first-team honors, including the AP, Walter Camp, the Big Ten All-Conference awards and now AFCA All-America. Jones’ Rimington Trophy win made him one of two Hawkeyes in program history to win the award for the best center in college football. He earned the AFCA selection as an offensive lineman, with Ohio State’s Carson Hinzman earning the center nod.
Tuesday’s honor confirms Jones is a consesus All-American, making him the 34th in program history. He’s the 13th player of the last 12 seasons to reach that status.
Wetjen received second team AFCA honors, making it has second first-team honor he’s collected this season. Wetjen was the first player to receive the Big Ten Rodgers-Dwight Return Specialist of the Year in back-to-back seasons. He was the conference’s first team selection at returner, and leads the nation in punt returns for touchdowns — scoring three throughout the season.
Wetjen is also a finalist for the Jet Award, which he won last season. The honor for the nation’s best return specialist will be announced later into bowl season.
Wetjen is now the third player on Iowa’s roster to receive All-America honors, after Beau Stephens was named an AP All-American Monday morning.
AFCA is one of five organizations recognized by the NCAA to determine All-America status. The AP, Walter Camp, Sporting News and Football Writers Association of America are the remaining four.
