Festina lente is the motto of the British Conservative Party in the Victorian age. Festina lente was what Caesar Augustus told his generals when going into battle. It means "hasten slowly."
The symbol for festina lente is a dolphin (hasten) wrapped around an anchor (slowly).
Victorian Conservatives always manifested a particular care not to disrupt institutions sanctioned by old age. For Conservatives necessary changes are gradually worked out.
The Conservative philosophy of festina lente was the exact opposite of the Liberal's feverish over hasty need to chase wild illusions and run the risk of causing great confusion to all including those most in need.
I myself believe in the Victorian motto of festina lente and only wish that both Republicans and Democrats would both stop chasing "wild illusions" and stop disrupting our tried and true institutions sanctioned by old age.
