CEDAR RAPIDS — Orchestra Iowa, in partnership with Ballet Quad Cities, will present the beloved holiday classic “The Nutcracker.”
Two performances will take place at the historic Paramount Theatre at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6.
A cherished tradition for families across Eastern Iowa, “The Nutcracker” brings Tchaikovsky’s iconic score to life with the unmatched artistry of live orchestral music and the elegant, whimsical choreography of Ballet Quad Cities. Together, these two acclaimed institutions will transport audiences into Clara’s magical world — filled with dancing snowflakes, battling toy soldiers and the enchanting Sugar Plum Fairy.

“This collaboration has become a cornerstone of our holiday season,” said Eric Marshall, Orchestra Iowa CEO. “There is nothing like the sound of a live orchestra elevating the beauty of the ballet. It’s a magical experience for audiences of all ages.”
Daniel Wiley will join the Orchestra Iowa musicians in the pit as guest conductor for both performances. Wiley currently serves as music director of the Salisbury Symphony in North Carolina and holds posts as the assistant conductor with the Cincinnati Symphony and Kansas City Symphony. He has conducted for the Nashville Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, Calgary Philharmonic and London Symphonia, among others.
