Do your research before protesting against ICE

There were more than 10 million border encounters with noncitizens during President Biden’s term. We’ve all seen images of large groups entering through gaps in the border or bypassing checkpoints entirely. They are here illegally.
Among those crossing were gang members, human traffickers, and drug smugglers — people who intend to exploit our communities. Many released into the country have failed to appear for their immigration hearings and have been ordered removed. Others have been arrested for crimes and then released again by lenient judges, even though criminal activity is grounds for deportation.
We’ve witnessed tragic consequences. Lakin Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student, is just one of many victims harmed or killed by individuals who entered illegally.
According to the CDC, fentanyl was involved in more than 48,000 overdose deaths in 2024 alone. Thousands of unaccompanied minors remain unaccounted for after arriving. We can only hope they are safe.
So when I see protests, threats, and harassment aimed at ICE agents — men and women doing their jobs to protect American citizens — I’m disgusted. Before protesting their work, people should research who they are defending from prosecution and removal. Set aside your hatred long enough to see the real-world dangers. Think of Lakin Riley. Think of your own children or grandchildren who could be the next victim of an assailant here illegally or of fentanyl crossing the border.
Think beyond politics and consider the safety of the American people. Think of something other than your own self-serving interests.
