Robert “Bob” James Sero Jr., 65, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 27, 1960, to Beatrice “Rita” Schuman and Robert Sero Sr. Bob passed away at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy surrounded by his loving family and friends on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
Bob met the love of his life, Barb McCraney, in 1976 and married in 1978. Together they had three children, TerriAnne, Shawna, and Bobby. They settled in Cedar Rapids to raise their family and where he was a subcontractor for the area. He retired in 2018. Bob was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved and was a fan of the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and Iowa Hawkeyes. He also loved listening to classic rock music, talking about muscle cars, going fishing, going morel mushroom hunting, watching NASCAR racing, and watching different sports on the weekends with family. Most of all, he loved being with his family for cookouts, family events, day fishing trips, or the chaos of everyday life. Bob loved to spend the time with his grandkids, Taylor, Jennah, Bailee, Brayden, Austin, Kinsley, Kinzie, and his great-grandkids Everly, and Aiden.
Bob is survived by his children, TerriAnne Akers (Tim) of Mount Vernon, Shawna Sero of Cedar Rapids, and Robert “Bobby” Sero III of North Liberty, along with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice “Rita” Schuman, his father, Robert Sero Sr, and his sister, Charmain “Sherry” Campbell.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, from 4-7 p.m. The family request that you come as you are and wear your most comfortable attire. In Lieu of flowers, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help his family with expenses.
