Celery isn’t food

The Gazette offers audio versions of articles using Instaread. Some words may be mispronounced.
“Twenty-five Foods You Can Eat That Won’t Cause Weight Gain.” I read this article from AARP with interest and an open mind until I came to “celery.” Let me just say, celery is many things, but it is NOT food.
Don’t get me wrong! It’s good to keep some around for many reasons.
Celery is a perfect vehicle for transporting Raspberry Chipotle Dip (Sam’s Club seasonally…try it!) to your mouth when there are people around so you can’t simply eat it with a spoon.
Celery is what you put on the bottom of the pan to keep your roast from sticking.
Celery makes a great utensil when you need a scoop of peanut butter but don’t want to dirty a spoon. (It’s especially helpful when the jar is almost empty and you would otherwise not be able to reach the bottom of the jar without getting your knuckles icky.)
Celery can add substance to soups and stews and if chopped finely enough, you can’t even taste it!
Celery makes a great filler for that empty compartment on the “dip tray” if you don’t have black olives.
Yup, that’s about it.
Not food.
