The Gazette offers audio versions of articles using Instaread. Some words may be mispronounced.
Our water quality is still putting us in a race to the bottom. The majority of Iowans want something done. The CAFO industry continues to grow and expand even though it is a major contributor to our polluted waterways and sources of drinking water.
The Iowa DNR has not been interested in any meaningful oversight or regulation of the CAFO industry, and they let them run over communities causing polluted beaches, waterways and polluted sources of drinking water. People are forced to spend money to filter water so it is safe to drink.
I still haven’t heard Rob Sand give a clear idea of how important this issue is to him. But, more importantly, I want to know what he proposes as some first steps to mobilize a plan to begin to improve our waterways. We can’t just pretend like this doesn’t impact our quality of life and the health of our families and communities.
I am calling on Rob Sand to start an honest conversation with the people of Iowa as he travels across the state.
