Downtown Cedar Rapids floodgate testing will close First Avenue Bridge Thursday

CEDAR RAPIDS — The First Avenue Bridge in downtown Cedar Rapids will be closed Thursday so the city can continue testing the flood control roller gate.
The closure will span the length of the bridge, from First Street West to First Street East.
The bridge was closed on Thursday and Friday last week, also for floodgate testing.
The roller gate, which was installed as part of the permanent flood control system, is designed to roll across the street and incorporate with surrounding flood walls.
Detours will be posted.
