Steve “Rhino” Godber, 70, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, November 2, 2025, at his home. Celebration of Life will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. Inurnment will take place at a later date at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Fairfax, Iowa.
Steve was born on November 20, 1954, in Elmhurst, Illinois, but if you asked Steve, he’d say Chicago. He was the son of William B. and Joan V. (Kraft) Godber. He attended Jefferson High School. He married Valarie Fields in Cedar Rapids and the couple later divorced. Steve worked for Dean Driscoll Construction until his retirement and later delivered parts for AutoZone. He was a fan of the Denver Broncos, Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes, and all NASCAR drivers. Steve also enjoyed playing pool, fishing, singing, jigsaw puzzles, and playing cards – especially “Dummy Rummy.”
Survivors include his significant other, Cathy Peters of Cedar Rapids; his mother, Joan V. Godber of Cedar Rapids; his daughter, Emilly (Brian) Davis; two grandchildren; his sister, Susan Moenck of Vinton, Iowa; his brother, David (Alinga) Godber of Marion, Iowa; brother-in-law, Gabe Berrafato of Beloit, Wisconsin; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; and close friend, JC Welton.
He was preceded in death by his father, William B. Godber; his sister, Ann Abbott; and his brothers, John Godber and Thomas Godber.
