What to know: Iowa opened with a 104-63 exhibition romp over NCAA Division-II Ashland on Thursday.
The starting lineup consisted of three veterans (Hannah Stuelke, Taylor McCabe and Kylie Feuerbach) along with sophomore Ava Heiden and transfer Chit-Chat Wright. Five others got at least 11 minutes of playing time.
Stuelke scored 23 points, Heiden posted a double-double (14 points, 12 rebounds, and two of the reserves (Emely Rodriguez and Layla Hays) scored in double digits.
Iowa enjoyed a 58-27 rebounding advantage.
Southern went 21-15 last season and became the first SWAC team to win an NCAA tournament game (a 16-vs.-16 opening-round game over San Diego). The Jaguars were regular-season and tournament champions of the SWAC.
After playing at Iowa on Monday, the Jaguars will play at No. 14 Iowa State on Wednesday.
