A Marshalltown woman died Saturday after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.
Melanie Katherine Nelson, 30, was crossing South Third Avenue at around 10 p.m. Saturday, just south of the intersection with East Main Street, near downtown, when she was struck by a Dodge Ram pickup, according to an Iowa State Patrol crash report.
Nelson was taken to UnityPoint Health — Marshalltown Hospital, but she died from her injuries.
The pickup fled the scene, and “is still at large,” according to the state patrol.
The Marshalltown Police Department assisted at the scene.
