Marion has been my home, for the second time, for almost a decade, and I am deeply invested in the community’s growth and success. Always one to roll up my sleeves and get involved, I have contributed my time and expertise to the Uptown District Board of Advisors, the Airport Visioning Team, and am a proud alum of the Marion Leadership in Action program.
For more than five years, I have served in leadership roles on Marion’s Planning and Zoning Commission which has given me a front row seat to the long-term planning for Marion. I’ve done the due diligence and actively participated in difficult discussions and decisions that have long lasting impact for Marion’s residents and businesses. I’ve done the homework, and I know how decisions get made and how to move good ideas forward. Ideas that make Marion feel like home for everyone.
Speaking of homework, I hold a bachelor’s degree in business administration, an MBA, and a doctorate in leadership. This academic foundation has honed my skills in thinking critically and analytically, to question what’s in front of me and dig deeper, and challenge others to do the same.
This is my first run for office, and I’ve been preparing for it for a long time. I don’t have a personal agenda and I’m not seeking office because I’m upset about one issue. I’m running because I love Marion and care about all the issues. As a champion for strengthening local economies and supporting vibrant communities, I bring proven leadership and a strong record of public service with a focus on economic development and quality of life. All with a focus on fiscal responsibility, communication, and transparency.
Marion deserves experienced and demonstrated community leadership with an open mind, and open heart, and good intent. I’ve relentlessly done the work for the betterment of Marion for years and have demonstrated my commitment to our residents and businesses. I’m ready to take it to the next level. I’m ready to reach even higher!
Destiny Hastings is a candidate for Marion City Council.
