Edward F. Allaire, 81, of Monticello, died Saturday, October 25, 2025, at University of Iowa Health Care in Iowa City, following a brief illness.
Ed was born November 20, 1943, in San Diego, CA, the son of Edward and Jean (Dzenzelak) Allaire. He was baptized on March 5, 1944, at Immaculate Conception Church in San Diego. He was confirmed on October 21, 1953, at St. Terese of the Little Flower in Chicago, IL. He attended schools in the Chicago area, graduating from Blue Island in 1963. He went on to study at DeVry Technical Institute, graduating in 1965. He moved to Cedar Rapids, IA and worked for Collins Radio from October 18, 1965, to February 12, 1999. On December 10, 1966, he married Carol Webster. They had two sons, Edward and Charles. They later divorced in 1976. On June 19, 1985, he married Vernita Schaffer. She passed away on March 23, 1988. On May 31, 1997, he married Jan Mohr of Anamosa. After Ed retired, they moved to Monticello.
Ed enjoyed making anything and everything he wanted. He loved to go to flea markets, antiques shows, and he loved to cook, so much so that he ended up doing 90% of the cooking.
Ed is survived by his wife Jan, sons Edward (Charlene), and Chuck (Amy), grandchildren Nathan, Kenny, and Christine, stepgreat-grandchildren Zane, and Maesen, a brother Robert, a nephew Matthew, a cousin Gerry Breitzke, Dunnellon, FL, and stepchildren Vicki (Shawn) Schuman, and Mark (Ann) Mohr, four stepgrandchildren Nate, Jonathon, Andrew, and Rylan, and three stepgreat-granddaughters Sonja, Naomi, and Willow.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his second wife, a sister-in-law, a daughter-in-law Jamie Allaire, and a nephew Jason Allaire.
Funeral Service will be held at 11 am Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Anamosa. Rev. Rodney Bluml will officiate. Burial will be in Wilcox Cemetery, rural Anamosa. The family greeted friends from 4 to 6 pm Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at the Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa and will again from 10 to 10:45 am at the church Wednesday.
